What a cookie is

Cookies, in plain terms.

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device so it can recognise your browser on a later request. This site keeps its use of cookies deliberately small: strictly necessary cookies by default, and analytics cookies only where they’re enabled and you’ve given consent.

Cookies set

Cookies this site sets.

No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set on this site.

CategoryPurposeDurationConsent required
Strictly necessary (session/security)Keeps the site working correctly, for example maintaining form state and protecting against cross-site request abuse.Session, or up to 24 hoursNo — exempt as essential
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)Measures page views and traffic sources so I can see which pages are read. Only set where analytics is enabled on this site and you’ve consented.Up to 13 monthsYes

Strictly necessary cookies don’t require consent under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations because the site cannot function correctly without them. Analytics cookies are only ever set after you actively consent, and never before.

04

Control

Controlling cookies.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. In most browsers this sits under Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of this site, such as the contact form, from working properly. Blocking analytics cookies has no effect on the site’s functionality — it simply means your visit isn’t counted.

If analytics is enabled and you want to opt out of Google Analytics specifically across all sites that use it, Google publishes a browser add-on for that purpose.
